I still have no idea what your problem with the Rhinos is. One team in Leeds that actually does the city proud. Some have an issue with singing MOT, but I don't see why it would be a problem, we sing Glory Glory which we stole from Spurs. |
Do I have a problem with, as I prefer to call them, Leeds RL?
To my mind, the anwer is no.
I object to the ridiculous rebranding of historic team names at the behest of TV money in some vain attempt to add something (I'm not sure what though). Especially ridiculous predominantly Americanised names that have no links with Rugby League whatsoever.
Rhinos have nothing to do with Leeds (just like Hippos), much as Bulls have nothing to do with Bradford Northern or Wildcats have no connection with Wakefield Trinity (who have at least incorporated their original name into things). Perhaps Halfa can comment on recent sightings of Giants in 'uddersfield? Or has anyone seen any Tigers in Cas Vegas?
It's even invaded the lower leagues. Bramley Buffaloes? Keighley Cougars (a name shamelessly stolen from Leeds Cougars, who at least had the decency to play an American game)? I don't recall seeing herds of buffalo wandering the plains of Bramley (not that they even play in Bramley any more), nor do I recall reports of wild mountain lions in the Worth Valley.
Even poor old Hunslet, once one of the proudest, most succesful names in the history of the Northern League has lowered itself to add the word Hawks to it's name
Sheffield Eagles? Sheffield Shitehawks would be a more appropriate name for the city that only knows how to leach money from the rest of the region._________________ The advert above is nowt to do with me!

OR.....
You could just let it go and follow the team. Did LUFC fans stop supporting the team when it went to an all white top blatantly copied from the efnick mob that dont speak proper english - or when Leeds City rebranded itself as United (United with what??)
Anyway
Storm won, Leeds won and LUFC are top - love my sport atm

Fuck me that was alot of big words to read - almost needed babelfish
Thing is Ravey it is ALL about branding & sales these days and the Super League is much better (IMHO) as a result of the whole "rebranding" as a result i.e. TV Coverage, better players etc.
What was great to see was the speech given by the Leeds Captain who applauded all the players who stay and play for Leeds, for the club and the city, rather than chasing much bigger salaries elsewhere.
The clubs may have "rebranded" their image to stay "up-to-date" but it is great to see the players playing for the glory over the money.
Looking forward to playing the Aussie champions in Oz - IF Leeds win this one then that would be an awesome achievement
30 Mil - do you know who they will be playing yet? |
