Acclaimed author, journalist and playwright Keith Waterhouse died "quietly in his sleep" today, a family spokeswoman said.
Waterhouse, whose works include Billy Liar and Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell, was at his home in London when he passed away. He was 80 years old.

(this is shamefully small article on t'YEP website - he started his career at the YEP, so they should be doing better than this...)

And Leeds born disabled rights campaigner Baroness Nicky Chapman has also died.

Sad day indeed. He was proper old school and a joy to read. Back in my shop floor days i used to get the Mirror every day and stick it in my donkey jacket pocket like a proper worker  Laughing . KWs column was the highlight of the day. I remember one piece he wrote about  the Brutalisation of the country back in about 1979. Brilliant and prophectic.

RIP old fella and indeed Nicky, another wonderful person

Only part of the Mail I was happy to read these days. His book about growing up in Leeds is a great one as well.

RIP  Sad
